Nokia, New Alliance Form Mobile Service Venture in China
December 11, 2009
Nokia and China's New Alliance, an affiliate of Shanghai Alliance Investment, announced on December 9 that they will set up a joint venture for developing mobile services in China, Chinese-language Beijing Morning Post reported. With Nokia and New Alliance each holding a 50% stake, the new venture is slated for launch in January 2010 with a staff of about 80. In addition to developing customized service content catering to the local market, it is expected that the new venture will help facilitate the entry of Nokia's Internet-based service platform Ovi into China. Full commercial launch of Ovi, which offers a suite of services including e-mail, maps, file management, and multimedia content download, is scheduled for 2010. A test version has already been available on China Mobile's Mobile Market applications store.
